CHICO, Calif. -

An illegal immigrant who lives in Chico is taking his case to the California Supreme Court.  Sergio Garcia graduated law school, passed the state bar exam and wants California Supreme Court to certify him over the objections of the Obama administration.   Gargia has been denied a law license due to his immigration status.

Garcia and his lawyer appear before the high court Wednesday with the support of the California State Bar, state Attorney General Kamala Harris and others who argue a candidate's citizenship status is not a requirement to receive a California law license.

But the U.S. Department of Justice says licensing Garcia would violate a federal law barring immigrants living in the country illegally from receiving public benefits.
