Chico tech company shows off new downtown digs
CHICO, Calif. -

For months Wanderful Media--one of Chico's many tech companies--has been renovating an 80-year-old theater building on Broadway in downtown Chico, and Sunday they opened their doors for the public to see the space they have created.

A sleek modern looking interior is highlighted by glass encased server room that thrusts upward through the middle of the building.

Wanderful CEO Ben Smith says the company has decided to move downtown from its old building at the airport to be closer to the Chico State campus.

"We wanted to move to a location that allowed it to be easier for us to attract the students from Chico State," Smith says. "Especially since we are often hiring engineers as interns and eventually come on as full time to make it easier for students to come work for us."

Chico Mayor Scott Gruendl was also at the open house and he says the addition to downtown will be a big boost to the city.

"This is huge for the City of Chico to really be able to accommodate a shift in how our economy works," Gruendl says. "And to be able to accommodate that in the heart of the city--which has always been the biggest symbol of our economy--I have no doubt in my mind that the City of Chico has a very bright future."

On top of housing the Wanderful Media development arm, the building will double as a start-up incubator for other young Chico tech companies.
