CHICO, Calif. -

A young woman has been declared brain dead after being hit by a car Friday night, according to Chico police.

Janee Nickerson, 20, remains on life support for organ donation.

Nickerson is a Chico native.   Her father Jon Nickerson is a teacher at Chico High School.  Her family was gathered at the hospital Saturday.

The driver, 21-year-old Amanda McClintock, was arrested for driving on a suspended license. She also faces charges of vehicular manslaughter, according to Chico police.

Police said the collision happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday when McClintock's car struck Nickerson as she rode her bike near East 1st Avenue and Oleander Avenue.

Chico Police Lt. Linda Dye told KRCR News Channel 7 the victim was not wearing a helmet.

The scene is two blocks from Chico High School.

Due to the extent of the injuries suffered by Nickerson, the Police Department called out their Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T). East 1st Avenue was closed between the Esplanade and Laburnum for about 5 hours.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Chico Police at 897-4900.

The collision comes just over a month since another serious vehicle vs. bicycle collision in Chico.   On September 22 Kristina Chesterman, a 21-year-old Chico State senior, was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver on Nord Avenue.
