ANDERSON, Calif. -

History came to life on Saturday in Shasta County with an official reenactment of the American Civil War.

There were ‘bangs’ and ‘booms’ all over the place, with kids and adults plugging their ears as cannons and guns were fired at Historic Hawes Farms in Anderson.

It is a recreation put on by the Reenactors of the American Civil War (RACW) organization. They have been doing reenactments since 1991.

School field trips showed up to watch Thursday and Friday. It was open to the public on Saturday.

There were between 250-300 participants out on the battlefield Saturday, including mounted horse units and cannon operators.

Reenactments will continue Sunday.
