Clover Fire strains Redding Fire Department resources
The Clover Fire is making staffing an issue for the Redding Fire Department.
In all, 20 of the 23 normal on-duty fire fighters and six of 10 engines are out fighting the Clover Fire, including both wildland and all-purpose engines.
The remaining engines in the City of Redding are called “city engines” and are not designed for off-road use.
RFD officials say they’ve called in off-duty personnel to cover the holes left fighting the wildfires.
Redding still has two wildland trucks and a water tender in the city in case any fires do start and they’ve activated reserve engines to cover any shortfalls.
Officials say they don’t have any estimate on when they’ll be back to full staff as it all depends on when the Clover Fire is completely contained.
