Covered California representatives visit the Northstate
Representatives of California's health insurance exchange, set up as part of the Affordable Care Act, visited the Northstate on Thursday.
Covered California opened October 1st. Since then, tens of thousands have signed up to buy health care plans.
But many people still have questions about the program, so officials are traveling up and down the state with answers.
Covered California's Executive Director, Peter Lee, was in the Northstate on Thursday. He started out his day at Shasta College in Redding, then headed South to Chico State.
Lee and his staff spoke with the community about their eligibility for coverage and about what plans might be available to them through the exchange.
Lee said he hopes people get the message that health insurance is available, and, officials hope, affordable for just about everyone through Covered California.
From now until March of 2014 Covered California will have open enrollment. Under the Affordable Care Act, no one can be turned away from purchasing an insurance plan because of a pre-existing condition.
