Crime numbers to be discussed at Redding town hall meeting

REDDING, Calif. -

Although you may not notice it if you were a victim of a crime, Redding's 2013 crime rate is lower overall than it was last year.

Police Chief Rob Paoletti will be discussing the numbers at this week's town hall meeting but on Monday he said that the numbers were trending in the right direction.

Paoletti said that last year, Redding's crime rate was up 28 percent. This year, he said rape is down by 33 percent, robbery increased by 12 percent this year and aggravated assault is down.

Violent crime in Redding was down in by 13 percent in the first six months of the year.

As for property crime, burglary is down almost 38 percent from last year, larceny is down by 11 percent and vehicle theft is up slightly.

Property crime is down 16 percent and overall, crime is down by almost 16 percent.
