CHICO, Calif. -

A female cyclist was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon just feet from where a young Chico woman was killed late last year.

The accident at the intersection of East First Avenue and Oleander happened around 2 p.m.

The intersection is the same place where 20-year-old Janee Nickerson was killed on Nov. 1, 2013.

The 39-year-old victim in Tuesday's accident suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Enloe Medical Center.

According to police at the scene the cyclist was seen by a witness riding south on the sidewalk along Oleander when she entered East First Avenue directly in front of an SUV driven by a 20-year-old college student.

"The car had no chance of stopping," said Community Services Officer Mike DiGiordano with the Chico Police Department. "The area of impact that I have tentatively looked at is about eleven-and-a-half feet from where Janee Nickerson was hit."

DiGiordano stresses that bicyclists follow the rules of the road just like any other vehicle and that motorists keep their eyes peeled for bicyclists.
