Shasta County Sheriff's deputies said a Redding man was taken to the hospital after shooting himself in the hand at 3:21 p.m. Saturday.
Deputies said 25 year-old Michael Tyree was found at a home on the 2000 block of Elizabeth Avenue in the City of Shasta Lake with a gunshot wound to his left hand.
Tyree allegedly told deputies he had accidentally shot himself while demonstrating unloading techniques to his friends. The weapon was found to be a Springfield Model XD .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun.
Deputies said the round entered and exited the Tyree's hand causing significant damage. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
After talking to witnesses and looking at evidence at the scene, deputies believe the shooting was an accident and no foul play is suspected.
However, they said the investigation is still ongoing.
