A man was hit and killed by a car on Eureka Way in Redding on Saturday night. The Shasta County Coroner's office has identified the man as 81-year-old Sherman Eugene Barrett.
Barrett’s dog, Rocky, was injured in the crash as well. He is a Chinese Crested and is around 10 years in age.
Rocky suffered a broken left front leg in the accident and unfortunately they are going to have to amputate it.
Barrett’s family is unable to care for Rocky and Haven Humane is asking for help with his bills.
“People could definitely help us financially, all of the after hour care, we need help with that,” said Haven Humane’s veterinarian, Cyanna Howden. “Then also all of the care that he’s going to need going forward, the amputation and hospitalization."
Rocky will also be looking for a new forever home after he recovers
“Maybe an older couple or somebody that doesn’t have kids, just for the simple fact that he is an older man and you’re probably going to have to be a little easier with him and he’s not going to be able to play really rough,” said Howden.
We will keep you updated on Rocky’s condition and when he will be ready to find his new forever home.
