RED BLUFF, Calif. -

A suspect was arrested in Red Bluff after a late night pursuit.   When officers caught up with 25-year-old Manuel Ortega of Gerber, they said they found him with methamphetamine.  Inside his car, they said they found marijuana and a gun.

It started just before 10 p.m. Thursday when an officer tried to pull over a white Lexus on Jackson Street for a registration violation.  The vehicle pulled over but when the officers approached the vehicle, the car drove off.

Officers followed the Lexus about a half-mile to the intersection of Crittenden Street and Jackson Street.  That's where police said Ortega exited the vehicle and ran.  He was arrested as he tried to climb over a fence in the 1100 block of Jefferson Street.

Ortega was arrested on a series of charges including felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, evading a peace officer and driving without a license.

A passenger in the car was detained and released.
