Driver runs off after crashing, knocking out power
An early morning collision on Redding's northwest side knocked out power for an entire block of apartment complexes and homes.
Police said driver ran from the scene.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday on Buckeye Terrace near Lake Boulevard.
The 2004 Toyota Tacoma veered into a parked car, then sheered off a power pole. Witnesses said the transformer exploded and the pole and high-voltage lines fell across the road. That knocked out the lights for 200 customers in the area.
Officers at the scene were still searching for the driver who ran off before police got there.
Redding Electric Utility said most of the customers were expected to have power restored by 7 a.m. The remaining customers should have electricity restored around 8 am.
