Firefighters are investigating an early morning fire that destroyed a mobile home in north Redding.
Redding Fire Investigator Craig Wittner said a 15-year-old girl was home at the time.
Wittner said the girl told investigators she fell asleep with a candle burning and woke up to the curtains in flames.
She said she was using a candle because there was no electricity in the home.
The girl said she was home alone because her mother, Rebecca Weigart, was out partying.
The fire was reported just before 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 17800 block of Paradise Lane in north Redding off Lake Boulevard.
The mobile home was destroyed.
Bonita Robinson and her mother Valera Popejoy live across the street and were awakened by the commotion.
"We saw flames higher than the trees. They were huge and there were fire trucks everywhere. The flames were pretty high. There were fire trucks everywhere I started praying," explained Robinson.
Wittner said Weigart was uncooperative when she returned home to the scene and went to a neighbor's house to sleep while the daughter walked around shoeless trying to find any remaining belongings in the destroyed home.
The girl was picked up by her father at the scene.
Her 17-year-old boyfriend was also with her at the time.
We're working to learn if charges will be filed against Weigart.
