CITY OF SHASTA LAKE, Calif. -

A Shasta Lake man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after deputies say he assaulted another man during an domestic dispute, leaving the victim in critical condition.

It happened  Friday just before 4 p.m. at 4439 Meade Street in the City of Shasta Lake .  Deputies responded to a report of a hit and run, vehicle vs. pedestrian collision.

The victim, Kevin Latner age 46 of the City of Shasta Lake, was transported to an area hospital with severe head trauma and in critical condition.

Deputies said the driver of the vehicle, Brice Robinson, age 42 of the City of Shasta Lake, was later found at his residence and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation revealed that Robinson and Latner have been arguing over Robinsons’s estranged girlfriend who recently moved in with Latner.  Robinson went over to Latner’s residence to drop off some of her property.

While there, he and Latner got into an argument. According to witnesses, Robinson struck Latner in the head and body with a metal crutch.

Latner was able to take the crutch away from him. As Robinson attempted to leave in his truck, Latner tried to stop him by pulling him out of his truck as the vehicle was moving. Latner ended up on the ground with a severe injury to his head.

Deputies said it was unclear if he was struck by Robinson’s vehicle or if his injuries were caused when he fell to the pavement.

Shasta Dam Boulevard was closed from Hardenbrook Avenue to Cabello Street for several hours while investigators were on the scene.

Robinson was arrested and booked into the jail on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies have contacted several witnesses, and the investigation is continuing. If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
