REDDING, Calif. -

Firefighters in Redding responded to a two-alarm structure fire at a duplex near downtown.

The fire was reported around 6:30 a.m. Monday near Orange Street off Eureka Way.

A witness spotted smoke coming from a swamp cooler.  When firefighters arrived they found a man with severe burns.  He was taken to Mercy Medical Center.

A second alarm was called out of fear the fire could spread to other units. Fortunately firefighters were able to contain the fire to one room and its contents.

It's not clear how many people were in the unit when the fire broke out.  The burn victim was seriously hurt.
