Former School Instructor Arrested for Molesting Students
A former Butte County school instructor has been arrested for molesting three young students.
You Lee Vang, 53, was recently arrested in Alaska and brought back to Butte County to face a series of charges.
The Butte County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) has been conducting an on-going investigation since 2011. It started with allegations that Vang sexually assaulted students at Poplar Avenue School in Thermalito.
The investigation determined that Vang worked at the school as an English as a Second Language instructor for Hmong students from 2001-2011.
Deputies said in 2011, one of Vang’s victims came forward to disclose being sexually assaulted by Vang in 2006-2007, when she was between eight and nine years of age.
The Butte County SVU conducted an extensive investigation and located three additional victims who provided similar disclosures of sexual assault; as well as three victims who declined to cooperate with the investigation.
In 2011 Vang left California and moved to Anchorage, Alaska before he could be questioned about the allegations.
In April of 2013, Butte County SVU Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Vang’s arrest alleging: three counts of digital penetration of a child under the age of 10, three counts of lewd acts on a child with force and three counts of lewd acts on a child. Vang’s bail was set at $3,375,000.
On April 10, Vang was arrested in Alaska by investigators from the Butte County SVU. Vang was transported back to Butte County and booked into the Butte County Jail.
Anyone with information about the investigation or Vang is encouraged to contact Detective D’Amato at the Butte County Sheriff’s Office SVU at (530) 538-7321.
