HAMILTON CITY, Calif. -

A Hamilton City school track coach is under arrest, accused of having sexual relations with a student, and exchanging sexually explicit text messages.

The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Hernandez, 23 of Orland, on Wednesday after investigating the allegations.  Hernandez is the assistant track coach at Hamilton High School.

School officials contacted the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office after a student reported inappropriate sexual communication.  Deputies investigated alleged text messages  between several minor students and Hernandez.

According to a news release from Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones, investigators learned that Hernandez had previously arranged to meet a minor female after school hours.  The two allegedly engaged in sexual activity.

Hernandez was contacted at the high school and interviewed.  After the interview at 4:27 p.m. Wednesday, Hernandez was booked into the Glenn County Jail in Willows on a series of felony charges.

The charges include: contact with a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense; sexual penetration with a foreign object with the victim being under 18 years of age; sending obscene matter depicting a minor; and oral copulation with a person under 18 years of age.

Investigators said a subsequent search of Hernandez’s cell phone revealed several sexually explicit photos of unclothed minors.

Hernandez will also face a misdemeanor charge of possession of matter depicting a minor under the age of 14 engaged in sexual acts.

Hernandez is held on $230,000 bail.
