CHICO, Calif. -

Bridge construction will force the diversion of northbound traffic on Highway 99 in Butte County.

Vehicles will be diverted at the bridge over Butte Creek south of Chico.

One northbound lane will go onto a temporary bridge. The other will be diverted onto the southbound bridge.

It's part of a $10 million project to replace the 60-year-old bridge over Butte Creek.

The new lane alignment will go into effect at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Construction is expected to last about 8 months.
