Chico city officials competed Friday over a cook-off at the 51st Annual Community BBQ. Local restaurants and public safety agencies joined in on the fun.
It was a packed house at the Manzanita Place in Chico for folks to get their hands on some delicious BBQ. This event is held every year in Chico. There are two divisions for the pork rib cook-off.
One is called the “Professional Division” where local restaurants compete against each other. The other one is called the “Backyard Division” and this is for public safety agencies around Butte County such as the sheriff's office, Chico Fire and many others.
The Butte County Sheriff's Office says are the reigning champions for their signature pork ribs and they hope to repeat again this year.
"We got a proven strategy here. Again, we were the winners last year. We got a dedicated group of people who are masters behind the grill and we think we are going to take again this year,” Butte County Undersheriff, Kory Honea.
The sheriff's office did not win this year's title. The winner went to Enloe flight care and they won $500.00. In the professional category the winner was Kinder's Meat and BBQ and they also won $500.00.
