The Kool April Nites barbeque is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Foothill High School band.
“This is our Jazz A and Jazz Cats band and they’re the ones who perform for Club Cougar and our dancers are the ones who actually dance during Club Cougar,” said Foothill band booster vice president, Bruce Bonner.
Playing the tunes of the 1920’s and 1930’s, the students entertained the crowd for several hours in the Redding Civic Auditorium parking lot. Guests were served a nice tri-tip and barbeque chicken dinner from the San Francisco Deli.
“It’s really nice to see people who care about the bands and other performing arts in their community,” said band member senior, Margaret Murray.
It’s events like this that fund the band’s trips all over the country to perform or compete.
“So in doing this we are able to take all our band members when we go,” said Bonner.
For parents of the band members, they couldn’t be more thrilled to see the turnout.
“Arts are what always get cut first so it’s really important to keep arts alive,” said band member parent, Rebecca Czarniak.
Around 500 people attended Wednesday’s fundraiser.
