REDDING, Calif. -

Redding Police Chief Rob Paoletti hosted the 4th and final town hall meeting of the year Wednesday night.
The topic discussed inside the City Council Chambers was identity theft.

Paoletti assigned speaking duties to his financial crimes investigator, Eric Harney who addressed the audience for about an hour.

Harney talked about check, credit card, and ATM fraud, as well as identity theft prevention and education.

Harney said identity theft is big problem in the area and it's on the rise.

"We're seeing a large increase. Gone up to 250 cases so far this year, and I plan on being well over 300 that are reported. A lot of the problem is victims don't want to report it," said Harney.
