KIXE management responds to allegations about a woman accused of stealing credit card numbers from donors.
Stephanie Winchester is being investigated for stealing credit card numbers while working as a type of volunteer at KIXE-TV in Redding.
Police said Winchester admitted stealing the numbers and using them to buy stuff for herself.
Mike Lampella, KIXE television's General Manager, said that for starters – Winchester was not actually a volunteer or any form of an an employee. He said she was part of training program that they offer.
Lampella said no credit card information or any other financial information was ever made available to her; she broke the law and found a way to get her hands on the card numbers herself.
Lampella said that in the 35 years he has worked at KIXE, this has never happened.
He said KIXE values its members and has since taken internal measures to make sure something like this never happens again.
The Redding Police Department has recommended 11 counts of fraud and embezzlement charges to the District Attorney's office, which will decide whether or not to pursue those charges.
