Extreme Case of Cat Hoarding in Chico
CHICO, Calif. -

An extreme case of cat hoarding has come to light in Chico.

The Butte Humane Society is calling it the largest case they have seen it at least a decade.

It involves 114 cats living in a two bedroom house and garage.

It's taking three Chico area agencies to sort out the mess—Companion Animal Welfare Alliance, Chico Animal Services and the Butte Humane Society.

So far they've removed 90 cats from the home, which leaves 24 that still need to be taken care of.

Butte Humane says they hope to have the job done by the end of the week

They also say the cats are—for the most part—healthy.

All of the agencies involved are working to evaluate and give the cats medical care to prepare them for adoption.

The good news out of this is the cat hoarder did come looking for help—perhaps before things got "even more" out of hand, Butte Humane says.

As can be imagined, there are now a ton of cats looking for good homes.

The ages range from kittens to young adults—including 9 that would make great “barn cat” mousers.

And the agencies working this case could use any and all of the help they can get.
