Chico parents and swimmers alike are finding it easier to relax and enjoy the water after lifeguards returned to Sycamore Pool in Lower Bidwell Park.
Their return comes about a month later than they normally do.
Traditionally, lifeguards are on duty starting Memorial Day Weekend, but a lack of applicants postponed that for almost a month.
A partnership with the California Conservation Corps is helping to remedy the situation and keep the stands full over the weekends.
Kate Plossl, in town visiting from Napa, said it's nice having a second set of eyes on the kids and good to know there are professionals around if anything goes wrong.
"I only have two eyes, so there's two kids today so it's good to keep an eye on them. Plus they're pretty wild," Possl said with a smile. "You got to know where they are at all times.
Plossl said having professionals around is also peace of mind for experienced swimmers like her.
"They have CPR (training) and everything so even if I have trouble, they got me. They got my back," she said.
Lifeguards will be on duty Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
More applicants are said to be going through the hiring process with hopes lifeguards will soon be able to watch the pool more days of the week.
