Local sporting goods shop goes up against big box store
Redding Sports LTD is not worried about the opening of Dick’s Sporting Goods because they said their loyal clients will keep them in business.
Dick’s Sporting Goods will be opening their doors on October 18, 2013. They are one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world. Locally owned and operated shop Redding Sports LTD is just up the street from the big box store.
“We know the area, we know our customers really well, we live here, we work here, we play here so the customers pick up on that and appreciate that,” said Redding Sports LTD sales associate Nathan Buchholz.
Buchholz has worked at the store for two years, he said what sets them apart is their customer service.
“They know they can come here they trust their salesman, they know us, they know our family and I think it’s just comfort for the customer and for us to deal with those types of people,” said Buchholz.
Redding Sports LTD has been in business for 15 years. Recently big sporting retailers like Sports Authority and Sportsman’s Warehouse have moved in, forcing Redding Sports LTD to switch gears to stay in business.
“More of the niche customer, we carry some of the products that some of the big box stores don’t carry or aren’t able to carry,” said Buchholz.
A majority of their business is repeat customers and they like to treat everyone who walks through their doors like family.
“Really good on their reliability, good store, cool people working here great environment,” said customer Alex Clemons of Redding.
Dick’s Sporting Goods can be seen from Redding Sports LTD’s parking lot, it’s about six football fields away. But for customers like Clemons, he is not switching teams.
“More at home and comfortable coming in buying stuff and parts, I will always be a regular here,” said Clemons.
This is the second Dick’s Sporting Goods store to open in the Northstate. The other store located in Chico opened in July of this year.
