REDDING, Calif. -

The man who deputies say stabbed his father repeatedly, then cut off his own hands, made an appearance in court Wednesday morning.

The preliminary hearing for 27-year-old Jason Dunn was pushed back to a later date.

He's accused of stabbing his father on June 17 at a home in the 21000 block of Scheer Drive in Redding.

Deputies said Dunn stabbed his father Gregory multiple times following some kind of verbal argument, then cut off his own hands using a radial saw.

When deputies arrived on the scene, 59-year-old  Gregory Dunn was lying in the driveway with multiple stab wounds,  and Jason Dunn was standing in the driveway with both hands cut off.

Dunn is pleading not guilty to attempted murder.

He is due back in court on September 24.
