REDDING, Calif. -

A Redding man accused of threatening to kill his father has a criminal history.

According to court documents, Kristopher Buchanan has two felonies and is on probation for at least two different charges.

His previous charges range from possession of narcotics to vandalism, DUI and selling marijuana.

In 2009, he was arrested for battery on a person and for having a weapon near or on a school campus.

Now, he is charged with attempted murder, burglary and making terrorist threats after deputies said he broke into his father's home and beat him.

It happened about 5:15 a.m. in the 12-thousand block of Lake Boulevard Wednesday morning.

Deputies said they got a 9-1-1 call from 61-year-old Paul Buchanan saying his son, 28-year-old Kristopher Buchanan, was outside his home, high on heroin and trying to break in.

Paul told dispatch he armed himself with a club because Kristopher had entered the house.

When deputies arrived they found Kristopher on top of his father yelling "I'm going to kill you!" while beating him on the head and face.

Deputies later learned that Kristopher had broken a glass coffee pot over his father's head causing a large cut, tried to strangle him and punched him several times.

Kristopher was also apparently threatening to kill himself or have officers kill him.
