BIGGS, Calif. -

A man has been arrested for the 2001 Butte County murder of Shirley Ann Pratt.

Pratt's body was found on Oct. 12, 2001 in the Oroville Wildlife Area near the Vance Ave., Biggs entrance. After further investigation, deputies determined that Pratt had died at age 41 from a gunshot wound to the head.

According to the Butte County Sheriff's Office, the Shirley Pratt murder investigation has been ongoing and several years ago, detectives began receiving information that linked Marvin Ray Markle, Jr. (AKA "Ziggy") to the case.

The sheriff's office said they used DNA technology to assist with the development of the case. On Thursday, they charged Markle with Pratt's murder.

Markle was serving a 90-day jail sentence for a probation violation and he remains in the Butte County Jail with no bail.

According to the Gridley Herald, Pratt's family believed that whoever killed Pratt committed another murder in Vacaville 30 years ago.
