CHICO, Calif. -

A man was hit and killed by a train early Sunday morning in Chico.

It happened just after 3 a.m., along the tracks near West Sacramento Avenue.

Union Pacific called 911 and reported one of their trains had struck a pedestrian.  The victim was found deceased just south of W. Sacramento avenue. 

According to personnel on the train, the victim was seen running towards the railroad tracks in an attempt to cross the tracks ahead of the train.  He was struck by the train as he tried to cross the tracks.

The railroad crossing at W. Sacramento was blocked for about three hours while the scene was processed.  Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to call Chico Police at (530) 897-4911.
