Man killed, 4 injured in alleged DUI crash on Highway 99
A Chico man was killed and four people were injured in an alleged drunk driving crash on Highway 99 south of Chico. The driver suffered major injures and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
According to a CHP news release, the crash happened at 12:45 a.m. Sunday on Highway 99 just north of Durham Pentz Road.
The CHP said 33-year-old Emily Lupercio of Orland was driving a 2005 Ford north in the left lane when the vehicle ran off the road and rolled several times. The southbound lanes of Highway 99 were blocked by the wreckage.
Bruce Rhett, 46 of Chico, was killed in the crash. The driver and three other passengers suffered major injuries including; Adam Mokres, 46 of Chico; Laura Hoffman, 61 of Chico, and Derek Hoffman, 26. The injured were all taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Investigators said alcohol is considered to be a contributing factor in the collision.
