REDDING, Calif. -

Redding police say a transient man was rushed to Mercy Medical Center with major injuries after getting hit by a truck on Highway 273 near Canyon Drive around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Police say 54-year-old Delbert Palmer suffered a broken leg and fractured arm. Palmer was walking across 273 with another person when he was struck by a vehicle heading north. The truck reportedly didn’t stop and drove away from the scene.

The truck is described as a white or silver Chevy pickup with an extended cab, missing the right side mirror. Police say it appears Palmer was drinking.
