A tour guide on Mount Shasta had to be airlifted to a hospital after breaking his leg, while protecting his tour group from falling ice.

J.B. Brown, 34, was leading a tour group on a climb up Mount Shasta when chunks of ice the size of cinder blocks started falling on the group just before "the turn" on the climb up the mountain.

According to our reporter on the scene, the injury happened between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Brown was rescued from Helen Lake at around 10,000 feet at about 9:30 a.m.
