REDDING, Calif. - Beginning in August Shasta County will reduce civil and criminal court hours due to recent state budget cuts.
Currently Shasta County Superior civil and criminal clerk's office in Redding operates Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM. With this new change, these offices will only be open until 2PM.
The clerk's office in Burney currently operates each Wednesday from 9:30AM to 3:30PM but is scheduled to reduce office hours to one day per month, on the second Wednesday.
Since 2009, state funding for the judicial branch has been reduced by 30%, with significant reductions impacting the budgets of individual superior courts.
Given the most recent cuts to branch funding proposed in 2012/2013 the court anticipates that its funding will suffer reductions effective in July.
As a result, it will not be fiscally feasible to keep the clerk's offices open longer than the hours set forth.
