OROVILLE, Calif. -

The 43-year-old Oroville man accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend to death was back in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.

On Thursday, the judge ordered Olabaku Jones to meet with a doctor, who was assigned to the case. That medical professional will determine if Jones is mentally stable to stand trial.

It will take approval from the doctor to see if criminal proceedings can continue. The examination is set for September 9.

This preliminary hearing was originally scheduled for August 1, but was pushed back to Thursday so the defense could go over medical reports, and examine the search warrant.

Jones is accused of killing Abby Tucker, 33, at the couple's home on June 24. Tucker was four to six weeks pregnant at the time.

Jones is being held on $1,000,000 bail.
