OROVILLE, Calif. -

A big rig accident this morning in Oroville closed an on-ramp for half of the day on Tuesday and sent the driver to the hospital.

Eric Schoeder, 42, was driving a cement truck on the northbound on-ramp to Highway 70 on Oro Dam Blvd. when his rig's rear dual axle snapped, causing the truck to roll over.

An off-duty CHP officer was the first to see the accident at 7:30 a.m. Schoeder was pinned inside the cabin but was able to climb out.

The on-ramp was shut down for most of the morning, forcing drivers to find another way to get onto northbound Highway 70.

"There is no indication that was any alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision,” said Officer J. Sanchez of the California Highway Patrol about the accident. “There was no excess of speed. It was just a mechanical failure [...]. It was beyond the driver's control."

Schoeder was taken to Oroville Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.
