SHASTA LAKE, Calif. -

The KRCR News Channel 7 Player of the Week earned the award through his solid rushing performance for Central Valley High School.  Connor Silveria carried the ball 32 times in the Falcon's 21-19 win over Orland on Friday, September 13.

His coach Matt Hunsaker said that was the game plan.

"We want to run the football," said Hunsaker.   "If we've got someone running the football like he's running we're doing a good job."

At the center of it all was Silveria, rolling over defenders and at one point losing his helmet.

"He was a workhorse," said Coach Hunsaker.   "We set things up running wide, wide, wide, and come back inside with him to kind of get them overflowing and allow him to use his vision and cutback."

The senior running back went for 199-yards, and two big touchdowns.  His team needed every point.

"They were running back and forth for our other wing backs and half backs," said Silveria.  "We caught them off-guard up the middle a couple times."

Silveria also made big plays on defense.  His coach said he's not surprised by Silveria's contributions on both sides of the ball.

"He's done a great job as kind of like a coach on the field," said Coach Hunsaker.  "He sees a lot of things, and very rarely is he wrong about what he sees. You can trust his eyes. It's just great having a guy like that on the field."

The Falcons will need that leadership this week against Enterprise, a team they lost to last year.

"They've got big boys up front, and big linebackers," said Silveria.  "It's another week. They're good. We're good. Everybody else is good. You've just got to take it one step at a time."
