This week's player of the week could also be named the comeback player of the week.
Orland quarterback Tyler Batchelder's presence was an inspiration for the Trojans in the Division 2 quarter-final win over Corning on Friday, November 15.
It was Batchelder's first game since recovering from a concussion that kept him off the field for five games. His 50-yard touchdown sprint at the game's start keyed the win.
"Once I just saw that cutback lane, and ran through and broke it open," said Batchelder. "I saw Brandon get the block on the outside, it was kind of like, 'alright, okay, we're back and we're ready to go.'"
Batchelder said his health is good, but he admits he needs to work on his timing for the passing game.
"I lost the timing with the receivers, and I missed two receivers in that game that were wide open," said Batchelder. "I just got to get better this week and complete it in the big game against West Valley."
Batchleder will need to get the passing game working if Orland hopes to upset top-seeded West Valley in Friday night's sectional semifinal game.
