REDDING, Calif. -

Redding Police said on Saturday at 12:22 a.m. officers responded to the intersection of Layton Road and “C” St. in regards to a single vehicle traffic collision into a power pole. 

According to police, 32 year-old Wayne Robinson of Redding was driving a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup southbound on “C” St. and attempted to negotiate a left turn onto eastbound Layton Road at a high rate of speed. 

The vehicle traveled out of control off of the roadway and struck a power pole at the south side of the intersection.  As a result of this collision, power was out for 1,042 customers in southeast Redding.

Police said following the collision, Robinson fled the scene. However they said he returned shortly after and turned himself in to officers.

Officers said Robinson admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing into the pole. He also told officers no one else was in the truck at the time of the accident.

Police said no one was hurt in the crash.

Redding Electric Utility  responded to the scene to repair the downed power pole.  Members of the Redding Fire Department and Street’s Department also responded to assist with the emergency. 

REU personnel advised that 1,042 customers were without power until it was fully restored on Saturday at 1:36 p.m.
