Police catch one of Shasta County's Most Wanted
Police searched a two-block area in south Redding Saturday afternoon following a sighting of two of Shasta County's Most Wanted.
"We received a radio call that two of Shasta County's Most Wanted subjects were loitering around the trailer park down at 5812 Cedars Road. We started to respond to the area and made contact with the citizen reporting party," said Redding Police Cpl. Chris Jacoby.
Police then attempted a traffic stop on a grey Ford Granada leaving the area which they thought contained Joshua Azevedo, one of Shasta County's Most Wanted.
"While we were en-route, the citizen stated that [Azevedo] had left in a vehicle but they provided us with a pretty vague vehicle description. A grey sedan is all we got," said Jacoby. "The only car we saw leaving was the one that we attempted a traffic stop on."
The vehicle carrying five people pulled into a private driveway about a mile north of the trailer park.
Immediately following the traffic stop, an unidentified male passenger ran from the car. A police sergeant on scene believed the unidentified suspect was able to flee the area before the two block perimeter was established. He successfully eluded police after more than an hour-long search.
The K9 officer who pulled the car over called for additional units to the scene. He was able to detain the other individuals without incident.
Redding Police originally identified Azevedo as the fleeing passenger, but it was later determined that he was one of the individuals already detained by the K9 officer. He was also found to be in possession of a stolen credit card as reported by the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.
Azevedo was booked into the Shasta County Jail for his outstanding warrants. He was wanted for failing to report for sentencing after being convicted of possession of narcotics.
The three other female passengers were detained and later released.
Law enforcement officials utilized a K9 and a CHP plane in an attempt to locate the fleeing suspect.
