REDDING, Calif. -

A loss prevention officer was stabbed outside of the Safeway on East Cypress Ave. just before 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Redding police said Jesse Fisher, 53, was attempting to stop a shoplifter from leaving the grocery store when he was stabbed in the abdomen.

The suspect, 26-year-old Alexander Restuchi of Redding, fled the scene but was caught at around 9:30 p.m.

Redding Police said Restuchi was attempting to steal some tampons when he was caught.

Police said Restuchi left his backpack at the scene which allowed police to help track him down at a home on the 1100 block of Bond Street.

When he was caught, officers said they located evidence on his person including a four-inch knife.

Police said they have had prior contact with Restuchi before.

Police said Fisher suffered about a 3 inch cut but his injuries were minor.
