Two men were arrested after a high speed chase through Shasta County. Officers tracked down the two men after they tried to make a run for it. The suspects are identified as 35-year-old Gary Singer and 29-year-old Howard Selig.
It started Monday just after 6 p.m. when Redding Police saw a stolen vehicle on Knighton Road east of Airport Road. The vehicle was a green 1992 Dodge mini van and was occupied by two males.
The officer followed the vehicle and waited for assisting units to arrive before attempting to stop the stolen car. Once officers tried to stop the car, the suspects did not stop and led officers on a 14 mile vehicle pursuit.
The chase went into the city of Anderson and then back into Redding. Anderson Police and the CHP helicopter assisted Redding Police during the pursuit.
At one point when stolen vehicle had slowed, the passenger jumped from the moving vehicle and ran from officers in the area of Mistletoe Lane and Highway 44. The passenger was located hiding in the bushes along Highway 44 and resisted arrest when contacted by officers.
The passenger was identified as Gary Singer, 35. Singer was taken into custody and booked into the Shasta County jail for resisting arrest.
The pursuit of the stolen vehicle continued until the driver led officer through the Lawncrest Cemetery and stopped in the field area north of the cemetery near Penn Street. The driver fled into a nearby house. Witnesses saw the suspect run into a nearby house and notified officers.
Officers located and arrested the driver hiding inside the residence. He was identified as Howard Selig, 29. Selig was booked into Shasta County Jail for felony evading and possession of a stolen vehicle.
