Progress, both sides negotiate at the Nation’s Capitol
Talks continue involving the government shutdown and the looming debt ceiling deadline Monday.
Democratic Congressman John Garamendi, who represents part of Glenn County, gave us his take on discussions.
“If the senate can come up with a reasonable compromise, it may put enough pressure on the House Republicans to allow a vote to take place,” says Garamendi.
On the other side of things, Republican Congressman Doug Lamalfa says, there are a few major points they’ve been pushing for: getting people relief from Obamacare as well as working to keep the national debt ceiling from getting even larger.
“That requires fiscal discipline, so in the package they better not be looking to raise spending,” says Lamalfa.
He went on to say there will be an intense conference tomorrow morning between other Republican leaders, and where they stand with negotiations.
