RED BLUFF, Calif. -

The Northstate has recorded its first traffic fatality of Memorial Day weekend.

The crash happened late Saturday night.  Skylar Garcia, 19, was killed when he crashed his motorcycle on Plymire Road east of Snow Court.  The CHP said Garcia was driving under the influence and traveling at an unsafe speed.  He missed a curve, slid and was thrown from the motorcycle.

The CHP said Garcia hit a road sign.  Officers think Garcia crawled to a bus stop near the intersection of Plymire Road and Snow Court, where he was located by friends.

It's believed the collision happened sometime before 11:30 p.m.  Garcia was taken to Mercy Hospital and later died from his injuries.

Investigators said they believed alcohol contributed to the collision.
