REDDING, Calif. -

The city of Redding won't be joining plans to create a State of Jefferson.   Tuesday night  the Redding City Council rejected a proposal to supporting seceding from California and creating a State of Jefferson.

A loud and passionate crowd of about 200 people packed the city council chambers for Tuesday's vote.

Supporters addressed the council about why they wanted to withdrawal from the state.   They cited too much government regulation and not enough representation in Sacramento.

The final vote was 3-2 with Patrick Jones and Gary Cadd supporting the measure.

The board of supervisors in Modoc and Siskiyou county have approved resolutions to secede.
