REDDING, Calif. -

A Redding Rotary scholarship recipient has been arrested and accused of using his winning check to create a fake one in order to steal money from the organization.

The Redding Rotary called the Redding Police Department on June 6 and reported someone was cashing fraudulent checks in their organizations's name.

Investigators say they traced the fake check to  21-year-old Dillon Haner of Redding. They say Haner had recently received a scholarship from the group and used the real check to print an additional fraudulent check.  That check was then deposited at an ATM by his girlfriend, 20-year-old Kandice Prather of Redding.

Surveillance video captured Prather depositing the check.

On June 18, Haner and Prather were both tracked down by investigators to a home on the 1900 block of West Street.

When questioned, they admitted they had done it. Investigators say when they were searched, they found heroin on Haner.

They have both been arrested and booked into the Shasta County jail.
