Redding police arrested a man Saturday night for a hit-and-run crash into a city utility box that caused his truck to catch fire.
Redding police said they received initial reports of the crash at the intersection of Old Alturas Road and Churn Creek Road a little before 10:30 p.m.
A short time later reports came in that a 2010 Dodge Pickup was on fire in the 1100 block of Burton Drive. It was determined the truck, registered to 37-year-old Joshua Scroggins, sustained damage consistent with the utility box crash.
Scroggins was soon contacted and arrested in his nearby home for three outstanding warrants. Police say a further investigation revealed Scroggins was driving during the accident.
Scroggins allegedly hit the utility box and then drove his pickup truck to his residence while it was on fire.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to nearby homes just before 10:45 p.m.
Scroggings was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license.
