REDDING, Calif. - The Redding Police Department arrested two after finding pipe-bombs in their vehicle behind the Redding Rodeo Grounds.
According to officials, police officers responded to the Posse Grounds Boat Launch around 4 p.m. after getting reports of a man with a gun in the parking lot. Officers arrived in the area and spoke to Arnut Tungsununt, 46, of Washington, and Kierra Bowman, 29.
Tungsununt was standing at the back of his vehicle near a shotgun, which was later found to be a replica, before being detained.
Officers reported that they were talking to the pair when they saw multiple suspicious pipe devices in the back of the car near where Tungsununt was standing when they first arrived.
Tungsununt initially refused to provide information regarding the devices but later admitted they were explosive devices commonly known as pipe bombs. Fearing the devices were dangerous to the public, the immediate area was evacuated and secured.
The Shasta County Bomb Team responded and rendered the devices safe with the use of their explosive removal robot.
Inside the vehicle, officers said they found other items used in the manufacturing of pipe bombs, a homemade zip gun and an illegal edged weapon.
Tungsununt was placed under arrest for possession of a destruction device in a public place. The said that the Redding Police Department will be asking the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office to file additional charges against Tungsununt for possession of the homemade zip gun and possession of an illegal edged weapon.
Bowman was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance to the level she was unable to care for herself and placed under arrest.
