A Redding brewery is celebrating being open for almost a year.
Wildcard Brewery located on Crossroads Drive in Redding is bringing hops to Redding.
On Nov. 29 they will be celebrating their one year anniversary.
The beer at Wildcard Brewery is 100% Redding made.
It's brewed, kegged, and served in the northstate.
Husband and wife as well as founders and owners, Jeff and Jenny Hansen, said businesses is overflowing.
"There certainly isn't really a craft brewery up here. I mean Chico is probably the closest one and we just thought Redding could use something like this," said Jenny Hansen.
So the couple took a chance.
"The name Wildcard just comes with embracing the unknown," explained Jeff.
A year later the unknown turned into a tasting room with six to seven beers on tap.
Recently the beer has started being made on-site.
In Wildcard's first year some 1500 kegs were produced but by next year the Hansen's believe that number will triple.
Jeff explained one of the ways the couple has stayed successful in a not so forgiving economy.
"There are several small business councils in Redding that we are part of and we've partnered with local banks. It's just about finding people that you can really talk to and dealing locally is huge."
On a Saturday night the tasting room is filled with some sitting at the bar, while others play darts or corn hole, a game where players attempt to get a beanbag through a plywood hole.
Patron, Mike Bertell, said one of the reasons he likes Wildcard is because it's locally made.
"It's really exciting to see a local business thrive as well as it has," said Bertell.
As the Hansens celebrate the success of their business they're encouraging others to do the same.
"80 to 100 hour work weeks are definitely normal but if you're passionate about it and you truly believe in your product it's something that you can do," said Jeff.
Wildcard is available on tap at bars in Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama, Trinity and Butte Counties.
Their tasting room is located at 9565 Crossroads Drive in Redding.
The day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 29 Wildcard will be hosting their one year anniversary party with pint specials, food trucks and music.
