Car wash raises money for Hayley Riggins' family

ANDERSON, Calif. - A car wash and bake sale on Saturday raised money for the family of Hayley Riggins, the young woman who died after a motorcycle crash on April 24, leaving behind a fiance' and young daughter.

Friends and supporters gathered at the Les Schwab Tire Center in Anderson starting at about 11 a.m., and saw a steady stream of people arriving to offer their thoughts and financial assistance.

The money will also go toward Riggins' medical costs, according to one of the event's organizers, Valerie Mittone.

The event precedes a memorial ride set for Monday at 10 a.m.

Hundreds of motorcycles and other vehicles are expected to participate in the ride, which will start at the crash site at Placer Street and Buenaventura Boulevard, and work its way down Highway 273 to Anderson River Park.

Redding and Anderson police, along with the California Highway Patrol, are encouraging people to use alternate routes during the ride, as traffic is expected to be heavy.
