Charges filed in crash that killed Hayley Riggins

REDDING, Calif. - The Shasta County District Attorney's office has filed a second-degree murder charge against the woman who allegedly collided with motorcyclist Hayley Riggins.

Virginia Anderson, 53, will also face a charge of DUI with injury.

According to Redding police, Anderson was driving a Honda Accord northbound on Buenaventura Boulevard on April 24, made a left turn onto Placer Street and ran a red light. Riggins was riding a Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Buenaventura Boulevard and was hit by Anderson while crossing Placer Street.

Police say Anderson admitted to using prescription drugs, marijuana and methamphetamine. Riggins suffered major head injuries from the accident, and later died at Mercy Medical Center.
